The Dixie Fire in Butte and Plumas Counties merged with the Fly Fire burning over 963,000 acres. The fires are being fueled by strong winds and have damaged at least 95 structures and destroyed over 1,300 structures. The fire still remains at 94% containment and fire crews are continuing to patrol and extinguish hotspots.

In a preliminary report filed with the California Public Utilities Commission, Pacific Gas & Electric disclosed that blown fuses on one of its utility poles may have sparked the Dixie Fire. PG&E’s report also stated that a PG&E employee observed a tree leaning into PG&E’s electrical conductors and that it was suspended on the poles.  The employee also observed a fire on the ground near the base of the tree. Reports show that PG&E’s equipment may have sparked the Fly Fire as well.
