Wildfire Recovery Attorneys

Our nationally recognized attorneys, known collectively as the Wildfire Recovery Attorneys, have represented thousands of plaintiffs affected by wildfires. Wildfire Recovery Attorneys are not just fighting in the courts for their clients, but also at state levels, rebuffing efforts by the utility companies, large and profitable corporations, which are actively trying to take away the rights of fire and mudslide victims.

Ed Diab leads the firm’s fire litigation practice and has litigated numerous wildfire cases throughout the country. He was actively involved in the widely publicized lawsuit against Pacific Gas & Electric arising out of the 2010 San Bruno Gas Pipeline Explosion that leveled 38 homes and killed 8. With over 50 years of combined legal experience, the lawyers at ELLIS RICCOBONO, LLP bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding to the clients they proudly represent. The firm’s attorneys all have a past history of working for large firms, representing corporate clients that insisted upon the best when it came to the counsel they chose. Having obtained the benefits of being trained in “big law” environments, the firm’s attorneys have chosen to utilize their skills for more important work – representing the interests of those who have been harmed.

Endowed with empathy and a deep passion for representing individuals who are wronged by the misconduct or neglect of others, the firm is uniquely positioned to provide services to their fellow Californians, and those beyond the State’s borders.

Heading up the firm’s Wildfire division is Courtney Vasquez. Courtney is an accomplished litigator with 12 years of experience specializing in mass tort cases and consumer class actions. For the past six years, Courtney has focused her practice on wildfire litigation going head-to-head with the most powerful utility companies in the State, including Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation (PG&E) and Southern
California Edison Company (SCE). Courtney has successfully facilitated hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements for wildfire victims of the 2015 Butte Fire, 2017 Tubbs Fire, 2017 Mendocino Complex Fire, 2017/2018 Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslides, 2018 Woolsey Fire, 2018 Camp Fire and 2022 Mill Fire.

Also having an active and hands-on role in the handling of the firm’s fire cases are its founding partners, Santo Riccobono & Tobin Ellis, each of whom has extensive trial experience with award winning results. In fact, the firm recently obtained a recovery of $29,500,000 in an individual wrongful death case, which is only achieved through the dedication and legal expertise possessed by the firm. The result is a record
for the state of California for the specific type of case it was.
